Food Sovereignty with Judith Hitchman: Why We Should Aim Beyond Food Security

In a capitalist world driven by neoliberal ideology, multinational corporations have become key players in determining the direction of the fundamental necessities of human life—be it food, housing, clothing, medicine, or even the air we breathe. These corporations do not primarily aim to improve human well-being but instead pursue maximum profit, resulting in an ever-widening gap of inequality.

In this video, Judith Hitchman, a representative of Urgenci and Joint co-ordinator of RIPESS Intercontinental, introduces us to the concept of Food Sovereignty and explains why, as human beings, we should demand more than just Food Security—we must push for food to become a fundamental social security.

The video also highlights the upcoming global mobilization under the name Nyéléni Global, which will take place this September in Sri Lanka. The gathering aims to collectively seek ways to reduce inequality and reclaim food sovereignty for the people.
